Marple in Formula Student 2024

As many of you know, we like to support students with our software. And because our co-founder Matthias used to be part of Formula Student (and is still active as a volunteer!), it was obvious to us to support some Formula Student teams as well.

In 2024, we had many teams that made use of Marple for the data analysis of their telemetry data. And what an extraordinary year it was for “our Formula Student teams”. We've witnessed multiple records being smashed, showing these young engineers' incredible talent and dedication. And of course, we are very proud to be part of this story!

Some examples:

  • The team from TU Graz (TUG Racing), achieved the world record for the fastest skidpad run with a final time of 4.135 seconds at the Formula Student East 2024. How amazing is that?
  • The Rennstall Esslingen team went from combustion to electric in only 3 years. And already in their second year they managed to win Formula Student Germany! We are very happy to have them joining the Marple side.
  • Just over a year ago, the team from Delft managed to do a sub-3 seconds acceleration at FSEast. Initial confusion about whether this was a timing error was quickly dismissed, as the data confirmed the near-perfect acceleration run. Data that could be checked immediately via Marple.
  • And not to forget, the WHZ team from Zwickau, that became number 1 on the FS Electric world rankings at the end of 2023.

An amazing year for sure. We are looking forward to what 2025 will bring!

Why We Partner with FS Teams

Formula Student competitions are a breeding ground for innovation. These students are the future engineers of the world, developing complex vehicles that push the boundaries of design, technology, and sustainability. Marple shares this vision for innovation and sees the collaboration as an opportunity to support the engineers of tomorrow.

Partnering with FS teams is a natural fit for us because their goals align perfectly with what Marple offers: fast, powerful, and intuitive data analysis. FS teams collect massive amounts of data during the design, testing, and racing phases of their vehicles, and being able to make real-time decisions based on this data is crucial for performance optimisation. With Marple, they can visualize and analyse data efficiently, allowing them to improve their vehicles quickly and effectively.

The Value We Bring to FS Teams

Here’s how Marple adds value to FS teams:

Real-Time Data Insights
Marple's real-time data analysis enables teams to track performance metrics such as engine temperature, battery levels, speed, and aerodynamics during tests and races. This helps teams identify potential issues early and make data-driven adjustments on the fly.

Data Integration
‍FS teams use various data sources like telemetry systems and onboard sensors. Marple integrates easily with these systems, providing a centralised platform where data can be stored, visualised, and analysed without delays or technical complications.

Improved Collaboration
With Marple’s collaborative features, entire FS teams can work together on data projects. Engineers can annotate datasets, share findings, and collaborate in real-time, which is crucial when preparing for race day.

Automatic Reporting
By automating reporting, Marple saves the team hours of manual work. Teams can generate comprehensive reports from test data quickly and share them with stakeholders, team members, and even sponsors.

Data Mining for Optimisation
‍Marple’s data mining capabilities allow teams to dig deeper into their data, uncover hidden trends, and spot patterns they might not have noticed. This is especially useful for long-term performance improvements and iterative vehicle designs.
